SixString Relaunch

Hi SixStringers!

We have some exciting news for everyone – we are relaunching SixString!

You can access the new portal by going to https://www.sixstring.com/register/ and creating an account. We’re sure you have a lot of questions, here’s some answers for (we think) the most pressing ones:

1) Why are we doing this?
We launched SixString 10 years ago via the Apple App Store. Since then, we’ve had to update the app to keep up with Apple policies, and create an Android version to be more inclusive. It was simply too labor and cost intensive to continue down this path – and we weren’t able to launch new features efficiently. With the new platform we will be able to launch new features much more rapidly.

2) Will SixString no longer be an app?
Correct, the SixString community will move to the web-based SixString.com. With that being said, the site is fully responsive, loads great on mobile devices and you can create a link on your homescreen so it will act like the app. Trust us, it’s much faster than the app currently is!

3) Will my content be migrated?
Unfortunately, no. You will need to sign up and create your account again, pick a username and upload your profile info. However, we really think the new features will make your experience so much better! If you are interested in getting your app files files, please email us at [email protected] and we can arrange a download for you.

4) What are the new features on SixString.com?
This is the great news – the new site features a number of excellent NEW features including:
• A much richer member profile with the ability to add your guitars to your profile.
• Groups and Forums so you can showcase your guitars and playing, ask any questions to other members and generally have much deeper guitar discussions.
• The ability to message each other (as long as 2 members are connected).
• News stories pulled in from various guitar mags so you can read and comment on them with the community
• Richer notifications.
• And more updates to come! We’ve only just started!

5) So what’s happening to the SixString App?
The app in its current form will be shutting down at the end of March. We will be removing it from the App Store and Google Play and focusing on SixString.com. However, the platform we are using gives us the ability to create new apps in the future. We want to move to apps eventually (in addition to the website), but we’ll need to be able to justify the cost, so we’ll be working on making SixString.com profitable enough to create new apps.

6) How are you making money?
Initially we’ll be making money by advertising on the site and selling SixString merch. We highly value the community and we’ll keep advertising to a minimum and as targeted as possible. We have not launched memberships yet, but we may do that in at some point in the future.
